Does Throne and Liberty have what it takes to be the next WoW killer? Lets try to answer that question and more as we learn about the upcoming game from NCSoft.
Throne and Liberty WoW Killer
Throne and Liberty is an upcoming mmorpg by NCSoft. From the creators of Guild Wars 2, Lineage, WildStar, Blade & Soul, and more, the developers have a proven track record of releasing great mmo’s. Originally meant to be part of the Lineage series as a sequel to the first game. The developers decided to alter the project to become Throne and Liberty instead. So will Throne and Liberty be the next WoW Killer? The game is still in development so it’s hard to say but we can point out the features that have been announced already that seem very interesting.
The Content
Lets go over what has been announced and revealed so far. This is a short summary of the type of content and features to expect in Throne and Liberty.
Open World Map: This would include both PvE and PvP content types. There will be a PvP flagging system that encourages you to flag for PvP. PvE dungeons are also rumored to be fully open world. This makes it seem players will have to compete for content especially early in release.
Large Scale Battles: Stress test footage and game promotion videos show very large scale PvP and PvE content with up to 100 players on the screen at once with abilities going off. It is unsure if the game will be stable at these player numbers but it is going to be running on Unreal Engine 5.
Cross Platform: Going to be released on both consoles and PC. This will give console players another full open world mmo to play. Designed to be ran on next gen consoles so the performance should be stable if it is on PC.
Story and Lore: There is rumored to be very in depth lore and a main story line quest to keep players engaged with why everything is happening.
Classes and Crafting: Classes are determined by the weapon equipped allowing players to change classes as they discover their own path. There is also going to be crafting systems in game.
Character Customization: AI generated character creator where you upload a image of your face to be used on your in game character.
When Can You Play?
The final pre launch test is rumored to be on February 21st and 22nd. This playtest will be in Korea only. But is on track with the schedule of being the last test before launch. The plan was to launch this game 1st half of 2023 and if on track this next play test confirms that.
Final Thoughts: WoW Killer?
Will Throne and Liberty be a WoW killer? Or compare to other top western mmo’s such as ESO, FFIVX, BDO, New World, and more? It would be hard to say. These long term mmo’s have game systems that a brand new mmo wont be able to implement in a tight release schedule. A good example of this could be housing, a balanced combat system, events, and others. We believe this is going to be a great mmo none the less and are very excited for the potential it has to be amazing.
