Old School Runescape New Skill

Will Old School Runescape Be Getting a New Skill?

The answer is, well, its complicated. On the 23rd of January the developers over at Jagex proposed to the Old School Runescape community a new skill poll. In a news post titled ‘Adding A New Skill: Community Consultation‘ which is in stage 2 of 6 for Jagex’s New Skill timeline. As shown below there is a 6 stage process when it comes to adding a new skill in OSRS. Anywhere along the process the new skill can get canceled.

The community has already voted they want a new skill so what comes next?
The article posted on the OSRS website listed a poll for players to follow and vote on what features the new class should include. Such as the type of skill, what other skills associate with it, pvp or pvm, and more.

So what does the community want? There are mixed reaction from the community on what the new skill should be. It is clear the community wants a new skill. But the problem is everyone wants something different. The front running skill is Dungeoneering. But even that skill is comically torn between the players. Take a look at the top two comments on OSRS’s tweet.

There have almost been new skills in the past. The most recent skilled added to the game was Hunter. The Hunter skill was released in November 2006. Nearly 14 years ago! Since then the developers at Jagex have polled for 3 additional skills to be added. The Sailing skill in 2014, Artisian skill also in 2014, and the Warding skill in 2018. All of these failed along the way and were abandoned.

So we know the community wants a skill. But where it dies is deciding what skill to implement. As it stands, the developers will take your feedback from the polls before making any decision. We will be sure to keep you up to date with any additional updates that come from this. What are you thoughts? Does OSRS need a new skill? And if so, what should it be?
