Rumor is that Ubisoft is currently working on the next chapters in the Far Cry series, Far Cry 7 and a standalone multiplayer game. To develop the games, the publisher will no longer use the Dunia Engine, but switching to the Snowdrop Engine, which was last used for the development of The Division 2.
The news originally comes from Kotaku. The website posted that Far Cry 7, as well as a standalone multiplayer title in the series, would be in development at Ubisoft. The website received confirmation of both projects from a close, but anonymous source. Yves Guillemot, CEO of Ubisoft, would have mentioned both games in an internal email to all employees of the company.
Originally it was planned to be one game. Early in the development it was decided to split the two projects. The game was internally known as Project Talisker and the project was led by Dan Hay. After his departure to Blizzard Entertainment, this project was split into two games.
Both projects are being developed by Ubisoft Montreal. They are now known as Project Blackbird and Project Maverick for the single player and multiplayer game respectively. There are also rumors that Far Cry 7 could feature an Alaskan setting, where the player will face some harsh survival conditions. Ubisoft has not yet responded to the rumors.
Juan Cortez coming back in Far Cry 7 or the multiplayer game?
The new titles might contain some well-known characters from the Far Cry series. Last year, Juan Cortez’s voice actor from Far Cry 6, Alex Fernandez, tweeted a photo of himself in a recording booth with the caption in the background reading “Enemy spy activated Sonar Vision. Wish we had that back when I was KGB.”
Nothing is known yet about the release dates around this rumor of Far Cry 7 and the Far Cry multiplayer title that Ubisoft is working on, but we are certainly looking forward to both titles!
